Friends of the Mahoning River conduct river cleanups throughout the year. We engage in cleaning our river not only for the reason of keeping our waterway clean, but also to enhance the experience of visiting the river for all people to enjoy.

The Mahoning River’s water level fluctuates greatly at certain times of the year. With these fluctuations comes litter that might be on shore. It is for this reason we must regularly hold cleanups. In the future we hope to utilize signs reminding people that we take care of certain sections of our river and the importance of not littering.

One type of cleanup we participate in is in concert with our friends at Trumbull Canoe Trails. Some litter and trash can get caught in logjams. With the use of canoes, we are able to reach the debris in a safer manner. We are very grateful for their involvement.
