Water Quality Reports
The Ohio Environmental Protection Agency – Division of Surface Water performed a water quality study covering over 55 miles of the upper Mahoning River and selected tributaries in 2006. From June to October of that year, the division conducted ambient biological, water column chemical and sediment sampling, as well as fish sampling. This was all part of the five year basin approach for monitoring and assessment under the National Pollution Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permit and to facilitate a Total Maximum Daily Load (TMDL) for the watershed.
The Ohio EPA Division of Surface Waters also has various news and information:
- Testing of the Lower Mahoning and selected tributaries was conducted 2011-2013 for the next report. While the report is not yet available, selected tables are available.
- Biological and Water Quality Study of the Mahoning River, focusing on the Former US Steel McDonald Facility (2012, Trumbull County).
- Some other information (various reports, designations) may be found here and through the OEPA Water Quality Standards Program.
- The Ohio EPA GIS page has many resources, including watershed testing locations (zoom to see).
