Our RiverFest Committee has begun to plan for an ever-growing RiverFest Festival. This is the 6th year that Friends, along with The Artists of the Rust Belt, will be combining to offer the public the opportunity to come to the B & O Station in Youngstown on Saturday, June 3 to spend the afternoon with us. We will be welcoming our many exhibitors and the public as we celebrate the Mahoning River and its importance to the Mahoning Valley.
The R. J. Wean Foundation located in Warren has awarded $1,785 towards our efforts of bringing this 5-hour event (Noon to 5 P.M.) to the banks of the Mahoning River. Vallourec Star located in Youngstown has generously donated $1,000 towards this educational event. Our Mission is to advocate for the Mahoning River through education, recreation, and restoration.
Again, The Trumbull Canoe Trails will donate the use of their canoes and kayaks to transport community members interested in taking a trip on the river at no charge.
Added to our line-up of animal exhibitors this June will be Jungle Terry at 1:30 P.M. who will be bringing 15-20 different animals and reptiles to the event. We will have dogs from the K-9 S.O.S. rescue unit, raptors from The Birds of Flight Sanctuary, and snakes and frogs shown by a representative of the Ohio Watercraft Division of the ODNR.
Please mark the date on your calendar (Saturday, June 3 from Noon to 5 P.M), and if you wish to bring a kayak or canoe and join many of our members and friends, there will be an announced paddle on Sunday, June 4. Final plans for the paddle will be forthcoming.
