This past September, Friends of the Mahoning River led a cleanup in Girard, OH at the site of the canoe and kayak launch which will be installed next spring.
The Friends is trying to keep the area clear of trash and debris to ready the site for installation. The area is remote and is sadly subject to illegal dumping from time to time.
The Friends is committed to keeping the area clean and will help maintain it after the new launch is installed to provide greater recreation access to the Mahoning River. The group also helped the city acquire the $75,000 grant to install the launch and appreciates support from the Youngstown State University’s Honor students for helping clean up the site during the cleanup event.
Lunch was from Jib Jab and was provided courtesy of the YSU Honors club.
